Packard has been actively involved in the U.S. and international flat-rolled steel markets for over 33 years. He begin his career at Rolled Steel Corporation in Skokie where he was one of the top producing salesmen within the domestic service center industry for approximately 20 of those years. He then started the service center division for Duferco Steel Inc. and served as the company's general manager. In 1997 John started his own company, Paragon Metal Services, Inc., which worked as a sales agency representing a domestic galvanizing mill (Winner Steel now known as Sharon Coating) as well as a number of international trading companies. Over the years John published an industry newsletter for his steel buying customers that quickly became a well sought out tool. In 2008, Packard focused his energies on his newsletter - Steel Market Update - which was made available to anyone interested in the domestic flat rolled steel industry. Steel Market Update is now published three times per week.
The overall vision of Steel Market Update is to provide real-time pricing, market trends as well as relevant news and information related to the North American flat rolled steel market.
