“World Steel Dynamics – Steel Outlook Report”
Featuring – Mike Marley – World Steel Dynamics
“Bred and buttered” in Philadelphia as the Irish say, our keynote speaker – Mike Marley - attended city schools and stayed local for college as well. His first job was as a news reporter for a small suburban daily newspaper that like many other newspapers today no longer exists. He joined the staff of the now-departed Iron Age magazine in 1977 and survived at Iron Age through the bleak economic times for the steel industry faced in the 1980s. He was named editor of the magazine and editor of the Scrap Price Bulletin which is still alive and well.
In 1990 he joined the editorial staff of American Metal Market as their secondary materials editor - reporting ferrous and stainless scrap prices as well as news and market developments in the scrap business. He remained at the AMM post for more than 20 years, until last December when he joined the crew of Peter Marcus’ World Steel Dynamics.
Marley plans to cover the World Steel Dynamics’ outlook that Peter and his staff of economic wizards foresee for the world and domestic USA steel markets this year. In addition, he will provide an outlook for the ferrous scrap markets and share observations on the changes that we have seen there in recent years in scrap.
